In today’s article, you will learn how to use actions in Adobe Illustrator. I will show you how to download, install, set-up, run and master Isometric Pro Action in Adobe Illustrator.

Isometric Grid Pro Action is an ultimate solution for the graphic designer and illustrator. It allows you to deploy an isometric grid at seven sizes within a single click.

The grid is based on the guides, so it would be easier for you to snap your drawing to the isometric axis.

In this tutorial, I will explain to you how to work with actions in Adobe Illustrator.

Step 1. Download the Actions

You can get the free version of the Isometric Grid action on vitorials.net.

To get the isometric grid pro, please, visit the product page.

Step 2. Prepare the File

Unzip the archive and place the .aia ( Adobe Illustrator Action) file into the folder.

Step 3. Load the Action

To bring up the Action Panel head over to Window/Actions.

Head over to the drop-down menu on the top-right of the Action Panel. Select the Load Action… option.

Select the OneClickIsometricGridPro.aia to load the action set.

Step 4. Run the Action

To run the action open the folder and select one of the seven actions.

Click the play button to execute the Isometric Grid Action and deploy the grid.

Step 5. Permanent Placement

Guess you don’t want to load the action every time you need the grid? To place a custom action under the Action panel just drop the file into the Adobe Illustrator’s default location:

Windows: Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CC\Presets\en_US\Actions

MacOs: Applications\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CC\Presets\en_US\ Actions

Step 6. Solving Problems

If you can’t see the grid after clicking the Play button, you might face two problems:

  • Hidden Guides
  • Alignment problems

Let me show you how to solve both of them.

Hidden Guides

To reveal the guides, head over to the View / Guides / Show Guides or use the Ctrl/Cmd+; on the keyboard.

Alignment Problems

Solution 1. Align to Artboard

The grid is supposed to be aligned to the artboard both horizontally and vertically. The Align to Artboard must be selected.

Draw a rectangle using the Rectangle Tool. Keep it selected and navigate to the Alignment drop-down under the Control Panel. Select Align to Artboard.

Solution 2. Unlock the Guides

Locked guides cannot be aligned properly. To unlock the guides head over to View / Guides / Unlock Guides or use the Alt/Opt+Ctrl/Cmd+; on the keyboard.

Thanks for reading to the end of the article. I hope now you know how to leverage actions in your workflow. To learn more about the creation of the actions and other design aids in Adobe Illustrator enroll in my Udemy course.
